In these challenging times, our partnership has never been more vital. As we face threats from tyranny – whether in Ukraine or elsewhere – we must stand together, just as our forebears did in the darkest days of the Second World War. I commend your personal commitment to finding solutions to some of the world's most intractable conflicts.

Trade between our nations is a cornerstone of our prosperity, and I am heartened by the progress we have made in strengthening our economic ties. Let us continue to build on this foundation, fostering innovation and opportunity for generations to come.

And as we confront the urgent challenge of climate change, our shared resolve to protect our planet is more important than ever. Your leadership in this area inspires us all.

Finally, Mr President, I cannot resist a small joke. Given your well-known passion for golf, perhaps next time you visit, we can play a round at one of our fine courses – though I warn you, the royal handicap might just give me an edge!

Allow me to propose a toast to President Trump and the First Lady, and to the health, prosperity, and happiness of the people of the United States of America.

The word "special" does not begin to do justice to the relationship between our two great nations. From the fields of Yorktown to the beaches of Normandy, from the halls of Congress to the chambers of Parliament, our shared history is written in the blood of heroes and the ink of dreamers.

The British Empire laid the foundations of law, liberty, free speech, and individual rights virtually everywhere the Union Jack has ever flown – including a place called America. Today, that legacy endures in our unbreakable alliance.
