本周我們學習和爭吵相關的詞匯

1. squabble/'skw?b(?)l/

n. (為瑣事)大聲爭吵，發生口角

搭配：squabble over/ about 因為…爭吵

e.g. The siblings had a squabble over who would sit in the front seat.

e.g. They were squabbling about what to watch on TV.

n. 爭吵

e.g. I don't want to get involved in their silly squabbles.

e.g. A squabble broke out among the children.

2. bicker/'b?k?/

v. （為小事）吵架，斗嘴

搭配：bicker over/about something 因為…爭吵

e.g. The two colleagues kept bickering over trivial things.

My grandparents bicker all the time, but it is mostly harmless.

補充：trivial 不重要的

搭配補充：

bicker like an old couple 像一對老夫老妻一樣斗嘴

bicker back and forth 你一句我一句地吵來吵去；反復爭執

e.g. They bickered back and forth about whose turn it was to do the dishes.

e.g. Even though they bicker like an old couple, they clearly care about each other.

3. grudge /gr?d?/

n. 不滿；積怨；怨恨

搭配：hold/nurse a grudge against 對…心懷不滿

e.g. She has been nursing a grudge against her former boss for years.

e.g. There's no point in holding a grudge — it only hurts you in the end.

4. petty /?p?ti/

adj. 器量小的；狹隘的

搭配：be petty about對…斤斤計較

e.g. I know it’s petty, but I still feel annoyed that she didn’t invite me.

e.g. She’s always petty about splitting the bill to the exact cent.

adj. 無足輕重的; 不重要的

e.g. The meeting degenerated into petty squabbling.

e.g. They always argue over petty things like whose turn it is to wash the dishes.

5. tolerant /'t?l(?)r(?)nt/

adj. 包容的；寬容的；忍讓的

搭配：be tolerant of 對…忍讓

e.g. Try to be more tolerant of others' mistakes.

e.g. He’s not very tolerant when it comes to being interrupted.

近義表達：

broad-minded胸襟開闊的；度量大的

e.g. He’s broad-minded and doesn’t get upset over petty things.

forgiving 寬容的；寬宏大量的

e.g. It is important to be forgiving in any long-term relationship.

take the high road 選擇大度和寬容的處理方式

e.g. When faced with criticism, it's better to take the high road instead of arguing back.
